Rockwood is the westernmost neighborhood in Gresham, Oregon, right at the Portland border. You can reach Portland City Center in about 40 minutes by MAX, but rents here are hundreds less than inner Portland.

The neighborhood is anchored by the Rockwood/E 188th Ave MAX Blue Line station — direct light rail to Portland westbound and downtown Gresham eastbound. Bus Line 20 (Burnside/Stark) adds east-west coverage. The MAX station is a 4-minute walk from 459 Rock, so taking the train to work is easy.

Downtown Rockwood Development

The City of Gresham has put real money into Rockwood through the Downtown Rockwood initiative — streetscape improvements, new sidewalks, better lighting, and mixed-use development along East Burnside between 188th and 192nd. The area around the MAX station is more walkable now than it was five years ago.

New businesses have come in alongside the area's existing mix of restaurants, markets, and shops. Rockwood is one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in the Portland metro, and that shows up in the food and retail along Burnside. It's an improving neighborhood with strong transit infrastructure already in place.

Living in Rockwood

Most of what you need is within walking distance or a short drive. East Burnside is the main commercial strip — grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and service businesses. The dining scene includes taquerias, Asian restaurants, and fast-casual spots. For shopping and services, you will find Albertsons, Dollar Tree, AutoZone, and a range of small businesses along Burnside and Stark.

Nadaka Nature Park is nearby with walking trails and community garden plots. The Springwater Corridor Trail provides a car-free biking and walking route that connects Gresham to Portland's trail network. Families benefit from nearby schools and Mt. Hood Community College, about an 8-minute drive south.

I-84 is just north of the neighborhood, putting you 23 minutes from downtown Portland by car and about 15 minutes from Portland International Airport.
